Coconut Planters are an Italian melodic hardcore punk band formed in 2018, born from the reunion of longtime friends united by their passion for the golden era of melodic punk rock inspired by the legendary Fat Wreck Chords and Epitaph sound. Since day one, the band has built a distinctive identity based on catchy melodies, powerful rhythms, harmonized guitars, and lyrics that tell stories, share experiences, and reflect on real life, going far beyond the usual clichés of the genre.
In 2020, the band released its self-titled debut EP through Flamingo Records. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic preventing any live promotion, all 350 physical copies sold out, confirming the growing interest surrounding the project.
During the lockdown, the songs that would become Upset Hopes took shape. The band's debut full-length album was released in December 2021, once again through Flamingo Records, on both CD and vinyl. As live music returned, Coconut Planters finally brought the album to stages across Italy and Europe, making up for lost time and further establishing themselves within the punk rock scene.
Among the band's most significant milestones are their performance at Punk Rock Raduno 5 in Bergamo in 2022, followed by the release of a limited-edition live cassette recorded during the festival, and opening for Punkreas at the prestigious Giardini Luzzati Archaeological Area in Genoa during the band's Electric Déjà-Vu Reloaded Tour.
In 2025, the band took another step forward by adding a dedicated lead vocalist, allowing every member to focus entirely on their own instrument. With this lineup, Coconut Planters performed at Festival delle Periferie in Genoa, Mad One Spring Break in Sabbioneta, and embarked on a mini tour of Finland alongside Teresa Banks.
That same year, the band completed the recording of Unpopular Opinion, their most ambitious and mature release to date.
After the recording sessions were completed, the first lineup change came when the band's bassist decided to leave the project, as his artistic vision, particularly regarding the band's approach to live performances, had begun to differ from the direction Coconut Planters were taking. Shortly afterward, deeper differences also emerged within the band regarding the project's identity. For Coconut Planters, music has never been separate from attitude, consistency, and the values that inspired the band from the very beginning. When those visions could no longer coexist, the most honest decision was to part ways.
Today, Coconut Planters continue as the two remaining founding members: Teo and Smau.
Unpopular Opinion captures the story of the band's first eight years and the lineup that recorded it, but it is far from the end of the journey. Instead, it marks the beginning of a new chapter.
Following the album's release, the band will take the time to rethink its future while remaining true to the identity that has always defined Coconut Planters. The project will continue to write new music, return to the stage, and explore new formats, including the acoustic performances that have become part of the band's recent evolution.
Because lineups change, people come and go, but what truly keeps a band alive are its ideas, its songs, and the determination to keep sharing them.
Coconut Planters are still here. And this story is far from over.
